DESIGN

“We’ve imagined an interior for the discerning person who wants something unique, something that you can’t get anywhere else on earth.” Glenn Pushelberg

To compliment Frank Gehry’s innovative design, and what Chief Executive Martin Cubbon has called “one of the most significant works of domestic architecture in Asia,” Swire Properties called upon the world-renowned North American interior design company Yabu Pushelberg to create a bespoke show apartment of breathtaking beauty.

The journey through the 360-degree space is one of discovery as it unveils its surprises. While the side facing the harbour is dramatic and sensuous, the rooms facing the green hills of The Peak are designed to be more delicate and refined; each part of the piece light and airy, framing the mesmerizing views to best effect. Each apartment has spacious “boat deck balconies” to make the most of the dramatic panoramic view.

The confident impact of the living area is memorable. Its contemporary and considered interpretation of custom-made sumptuous living delights the eye, yet as Glenn Pushelberg explains, “it is not about gilding the lily, it is about quality and attention to detail. It has to function well too.”

The scale and openness of the space at the front of the apartment is augmented by a beautiful, hand-painted screen. It sweeps majestically from the family room, past the living room to a dining room which, through clever design, is both an ideal setting for entertaining, with its distinctive 12-seat marble table, as well as a comfortable area for family meals, calculated to capture the morning light. The series of dividing panels also acts as an ingenious set of doorways to other sections of the apartment. From the dining room, into a large, well apportioned, platinum-coloured tiled kitchen of the highest professional standards, complete with the very latest appliances into the service quarters, it then crosses further down into the foyer and on into the more intimate areas of the home.

The entrance to the master bedroom is itself a vibrant experience, as one walks through a sensuously lit, fluid, curved corridor into an exquisitely designed environment enhanced on one side by a shimmering, floor-to-ceiling copper headboard and on the other by the unforgettable view of Hong Kong harbour. Two walk-in dressing rooms and a large, onyx-clad bathroom overlooking the mountain behind complete the bedroom suite.

The remarkable polish of the design has been amplified by Yabu Pushelberg’s inspired choice of art pieces, created by the likes of Candida Höfer and James Casebere, along with strategically placed objects of desire that have been collected from all parts of the world.

“The most exciting modern design is about creating an emotional connection,” states Glenn Pushelberg. “We want the interiors of OPUS HONG KONG to give you a memory of something very special.”
